Dr Itunu Johnson MBBS BSc MRCP MRCGP DFSRH DRCOG (previously known as Itunu Johnson-Sogbetun) is a UK General Practitioner, British Menopause Society (BMS) Registered Menopause Specialist, educator, and award-winning leader in women’s health with 15 years of clinical experience. She is known for delivering compassionate, evidence-based, person-centred care, taking time to understand not only her patients’ symptoms but also the wider physical, emotional, psychological, and social factors that influence health and wellbeing.
Dr Johnson offers both specialist women’s health and menopause consultations and comprehensive private GP appointments for women, men, and children at The Wellington Hospital in London. She also carries out remote consultations and home visits in and around North West London. She believes that excellent healthcare starts with listening, building trusted relationships, and empowering patients to make informed decisions about their health. Every consultation is tailored to the individual, recognising that no two patients or health journeys are the same.
She qualified at University College London Medical School and after this began her postgraduate training firstly in London completing the Foundation Training Programme and the Core Medicine Training programme and achieving her Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. Following this, she went on to complete the General Practice Vocational Training in Hertfordshire and achieved her Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners. In addition, as she developed her expertise in women's health and menopause, she has obtained post-graduate Diplomas from both the College of Sexual and Reproductive Health and the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has also completed the Advanced Certificate in the Principles and Practice of Menopause Care from the British Menopause Society, completing this training at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital.
Her extensive and rigorous training, gives her a broad understanding of complex medical conditions and how different body systems interact. This enables her to provide truly holistic care, considering the whole person rather than focusing solely on individual symptoms. Her experience spans dermatology, psychiatry, diabetes and endocrinology, oncology, geriatrics, neurology, stroke medicine, and neurorehabilitation, allowing her to confidently manage patients with multiple or complex health needs.
Dr Johnson has a specialist interest in women’s health, menopause, sexual and reproductive health, and cardiometabolic wellbeing. She supports women through every stage of life, with expertise in premenstrual syndrome, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS/ PCOS), menstrual disorders, contraception, perimenopause, menopause, weight management, metabolic medicine and healthy ageing.
She is internationally recognised for her work exploring ethnic variations in women’s health, particularly menopause, and has become a leading voice on improving outcomes for women of colour, including Black women. This expertise enhances the care she provides to all women by ensuring her approach reflects the latest evidence on how ethnicity, culture, genetics, and lived experience can influence symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment. She is passionate about delivering inclusive, culturally competent healthcare so that every patient feels seen, heard, and understood.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Johnson is helping to shape the future of women’s healthcare nationally. She is Co-Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners Women’s Health Special Interest Group, a committee member of the Primary Care Women’s Health Society, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for the RCGP North West London Faculty Board. She is also a GP Tutor at Queen Mary University of London Medical School, where she tutors the next generation of doctors.
A respected speaker, educator, author, and media commentator, Dr Johnson regularly contributes to national conferences, educational programmes, print and broadcast media, helping to improve understanding of women’s health and menopause among both healthcare professionals and the public.
Her contributions have been recognised with national awards, including Primary Care Professional of the Year at the Black Healthcare Awards and Outstanding Achiever of the Year at the Menopause in Practice Awards, recognising her commitment to clinical excellence, education, leadership, and advancing equitable healthcare.

Dr Itunu Johnson is professional, very knowledgeable and patient in explaining my symptoms , as well as the many options available to me . She’s readily available to support on my menopause and weight loss journey .
Dr Itunu Johnson-Sogbetun was extremely kind, patient, warm and professional. She has a very reassuring manner and made me feel completely at ease from the beginning of the appointment. As English is not my first language, I really appreciated that she slowed down, explained everything very clearly and repeated certain points when needed to make sure I fully understood. I never felt rushed, and she also gave me very helpful general health advice. She made sure I felt comfortable and had understood everything before I left. I would definitely recommend her.
I felt anxious beforehand because of my health issues but after talking with Dr Itunu I’m feeling a more hopeful.
I recently went for my very first consultation with Dr. Itunu and I felt genuinely cared for in a way I haven’t experienced before at a doctor's office. She was incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and attentive. I came in thinking I knew what I needed, but I left with so much more — not just solutions, but a deeper understanding of my health and wellbeing overall. What stood out most to me was how holistic her approach was. She didn’t treat me like just another issue to solve or another patient to rush through. You could tell she genuinely cared about me both in the present and in the long term. I’ve seen many doctors over the years, and this was by far one of the most thorough, compassionate, and reassuring experiences I’ve had. Since my appointment, I’ve already recommended her to multiple friends. I genuinely can’t recommend her enough.
Dr Itunu was very understanding, friendly, and validated my concerns and my previous experiences
Dr Itunu is a credit to her profession She is an Inspiration I can honestly say since my consultation she has truly changed my life in a very positive way .
Thank you once again for your support, guidance and advice.
