About Dr Francesca Ducci

I am a General Adult Psychiatrist, practising in both the NHS and private sector in London. Over the years, I have gained a broad range of clinical and research expertise through my work in Italy, the UK, and the USA.

I completed my medical degree in Italy, followed by postgraduate qualifications in General Adult Psychiatry in London.

With a deep passion for research, I spent four years at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, USA, where I focused on advancing my knowledge and experience.

Clinical Experience

I specialise in the assessment and management of various psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders (such as Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), ADHD, mood disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder), psychosis (Schizophrenia), and personality disorders.

Throughout my career, I have worked in numerous NHS psychiatric services, including the Early Intervention Unit for Psychosis (South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust), the Home Treatment Team, Community Mental Health Team, and the Neuropsychiatric Department at St George’s Hospital.

Since 2013, I have held the role of Consultant Psychiatrist at South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust.

Additionally, I completed a one-year foundation course in Family Therapy and am currently undergoing postgraduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Family Interventions for Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder.

I am committed to continuing professional development, and I am appraised annually by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the General Medical Council (GMC), holding a Certificate of Good Standing.

What to Expect

During the initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns, treatment expectations, and review your psychiatric and medical history, as well as your personal background. Depending on the complexity, this may take one or two sessions. Together, we will develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. At the end of the consultation, I will determine if a diagnosis is appropriate and, if necessary, recommend or prescribe medications.

After the initial assessment, I may advise follow-up appointments or suggest psychological interventions based on your individual circumstances.

I offer both face-to-face consultations at Harley Street in Central London, as well as online consultations. Additionally, I provide psychiatric reports, including medico-legal evaluations.

Research Activity

Research plays a pivotal role in improving our understanding and treatment of mental health conditions. My research interests focus on how genetic and environmental factors contribute to psychiatric disorders.

My research career began in 2004 when I joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow, concentrating on addiction and personality disorders. In 2008, I earned a PhD in the neurobiology of affective disorders and have since published several articles in international scientific journals.

Upon returning to London, I continued my research as a Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London.

I would definitely recommend Dr Ducci to anyone needing help if they are experiencing mental health difficulties. She has helped me enormously and I cannot thank her enough!! In fact its not too much of a stretch to say that Dr Ducci has now helped to save my life twice! I last contacted and used Dr Ducci's services some 5 years ago (see my earlier 5* review). She was instrumental in helping me to apply for and achieve retrospective ill health retirement (IHR) for depression & anxiety 20+ years when I had no where else to turn. 5 years later and now subject to a periodic IHR review I turned once more to Dr Ducci or an independent review / assessment on the state of my mental health. Fortunately for me, Dr Ducci remembered my case. As before, she was professional, courteous, communicative, respectful, thorough, engaging and sympathetic towards me. Within a relatively short space of time after my consultation, Dr Ducci managed to provide my employers a report on my mental health and also wrote to them directly answering specific questions. My IHR review has now concluded and my continued IHR has been approved in my favour!!!! Without Dr Ducci's involvement I am convinced I would not have been able to satisfy this review. I dread to think where my mind would have taken me if I had received an adverse decision. In addition, Dr Ducci also contacted my GP and they have since referred me for further treatment on the NHS. I'm pretty sure no other Dr would have done so much for me. Thank you Dr Ducci. For others thinking about using her services there is absolu...

The best psychiatrist I could have hoped for Dr Ducci made me feel at ease at a time when I was feeling unbearably low and deeply ashamed of my thoughts and actions. From the moment our session began, she was fully present with me—never distracted, never distant. I felt seen, heard, and held, even when I felt like I didn’t deserve care, when I felt like an outcast lost in a tunnel with no exit. She brings her whole self to her work, with sensitivity, humanity, and unwavering focus. Her approach is deeply holistic—she doesn’t just treat symptoms but explores the wider context in which difficulties arise, making connections that are both compassionate and profound. Often, she gently guided me to insights without forcing conclusions, allowing me to reach understanding step by step, always with her steady support. Dr Ducci is exceptional. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking help.

I unreservedly recommend Dr. Ducci as a psychiatrist. She is not only highly educated, trained, and experienced, but also deeply caring and listens closely. Dr. Ducci's communication style during our therapy is clear and based on our relationship of mutual trust. In my experience Dr. Ducci 's therapeutic guidance is extremely constructive and practical. In fact, after stopping therapy for a few years, I chose to return to Dr. Ducci to resume my therapy to cope with my depression and life choices because I found her so helpful.

Apologies for my delay - I have been meaning to add a review for Dr Ducci for some time. Let me start off by saying I would have no hesitation in recommending Dr Ducci to anyone experiencing difficulties in respect to their mental health. She has vast knowledge in this area and put me at ease straight away. Quite literally Dr Ducci helped to save my life. I have no words that can fully express my sincere thanks or show my deep gratitude. Summary - Despite my best efforts I was dismissed from a job of 30+years because I continued to demonstrate negative behaviours / symptoms caused by my ongoing battle with Anxiety & Depression. At no stage did my employers ever consider me for ill health retirement before they dismissed me because mental health illness was ‘invisible’ and in my case it was over-looked. Fortunately, they allowed me the opportunity to apply retrospectively. I contacted Dr Ducci via Doctify (because I was at my wits end and didn’t know where to go) and I asked if she could assess me and provide my employers an independent report in support of a retrospective ill health retirement application. At this time, I was feeling very hopeless and in a particularly dark place. As a husband and father to young children I felt totally useless 1) I could not take care of them & 2) that I could not beat my A&D. Suicide idealisation was all the time. Before meeting Dr Ducci for the first time, I was concerned from her profile that she sounded very Italian and might not be able to fully communication or understand me. How wrong was I was! Dr Ducci’s English is way b...

Dr Ducci has been very supportive and I’ve had a good experience through a diagnosis that has been difficult at times to come to terms with.
