Dr. Farhan Ahmad qualified from St Bartholomews Medical School in 1998. He was appointed Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in 2009.
He is a specialist in minimally invasive thyroid treatments and established one of the first thyroid ablation practices in the UK in 2018. His current practice includes thyroid radiofrequency ablation and ethanol ablation. He accepts primary and secondary care referrals for thyroid nodule assessment and has treated patients throughout the UK.
He is a lead researcher in the University of Reading Applied Health Research group and is currently undertaking post-graduate research at the University of Reading. He is chief investigator for Health Research Authority approved studies, investigating minimally invasive thyroid treatments. His work has been supported by grants from the British Society of Interventional Radiologists and Merit Medical Ltd.
Dr Ahmad has been an invited speaker at several national meetings including the British Society of Interventional Radiology, British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons and the British Thyroid Foundation. He procters doctors and has advised centres on the safe introduction of minimal access thyroid treatments.
Other areas of clinical interest include uro-radiology (including kidney cryoablation and prostate imaging) and vascular radiology.
In his free time he enjoys cycling and trains for endurance and multi-day events.

Dr Ahmad was very thorough, thoughtful and clear throughout the appointment. I went in there thinking I needed RFA, but after a thorough chat and explanation we decided together that it’s not needed just yet. I appreciate his time and effort making me feel comfortable and that it was my decision.
