Dr Chrissanthi Papoutsi

Dr Chrissanthi Papoutsi, known to many patients as Dr Chris, is a highly experienced general dentist with a rare and valuable special interest in dental sleep medicine. With over 18 years of clinical experience, she is one of only a small number of dentists in the UK with formal postgraduate training in this field, making her a trusted clinician for patients experiencing tooth grinding (bruxism), snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).

Dr Chris qualified from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007. She began her career in one of Sweden’s largest private emergency dental clinics, where she developed broad clinical expertise and significant experience managing complex dental conditions and supporting patients with dental anxiety.

After relocating to the UK in 2011, she developed a focused interest in dental sleep medicine. She completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Sleep Medicine (PgCert DentSM), gaining advanced training in the identification and management of sleep-related breathing disorders within dental practice. Her work includes the provision of custom-made nightguards for bruxism and jaw tension, oral appliance therapy for snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea, and muscle relaxant treatments to relieve jaw strain and tension headaches. She also works collaboratively with sleep physicians to support patients undergoing medical-grade sleep testing and diagnosis.

Dr Chris is a member of the British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based practice and continued professional development in this evolving area. She is known for her compassionate and thorough approach, ensuring patients feel heard, informed and supported throughout their treatment journey.
