Throughout his career, he has worked across a wide range of psychiatric settings, including rehabilitation psychiatry, specialist services and senior clinical leadership roles. Dr Iles has particular expertise in psychopharmacology, adult ADHD and the optimisation of psychiatric medication. He is highly experienced in reviewing treatment where symptoms have not responded adequately, where diagnoses require reconsideration, or where medication has caused difficulties with effectiveness or tolerability. His approach combines careful diagnostic assessment, evidence-based prescribing and comprehensive formulation to ensure that recommendations are effective, safe and individualised. He works closely with GPs, psychologists, therapists and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective care.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Iles has contributed to the psychiatric literature through publications in peer-reviewed journals and professional publications, including BJPsych Advances, Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology, The Primary Care Companion for CNS Disorders and The Pharmaceutical Journal. He is also co-author of How to Pass the MRCPsych CASC, published by Oxford University Press. His academic interests include psychopharmacology, ADHD, complex mental illness and the interface between physical and mental health.
Dr Iles is actively involved in postgraduate medical education and currently serves as Training Programme Director for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Forensic Psychiatry Training Programme, supporting the development of future consultant psychiatrists.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Iles is an established expert witness, providing independent psychiatric evidence in criminal, civil and tribunal proceedings.
