Mr Alakendu Sekhar is a consultant neurologist practising at Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral and Spire Liverpool Hospital.
He has expertise in all aspects of general neurology, including stroke and epilepsy and a special interest in vascular neurology, funny turns, and blackouts. He is dual-certified in stroke medicine and is the clinical lead for stroke intervention at the Walton Centre where he was responsible for establishing the stroke thrombectomy service, which today serves the Cheshire and Merseyside area.
He is committed to patient care; in his first year as a consultant, he received a clinical excellence award for designing the stroke intervention pathway for the Cheshire and Merseyside stroke network and he currently serves as an adviser to the British Neurological Association's stroke section.
Additionally, Mr Sekhar is the deputy lead at the NIHR-funded hyperacute stroke research centre (HSRC) in Cheshire and Merseyside; his research is focused on acute stroke therapies such as thrombolysis and thrombectomy.
He is also an honorary senior lecturer at Liverpool Medical School and the regional advisor for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, where he is responsible for promoting the College's education and fellowship.
