I recently had a follow up appointment 12 months post hip replacement. For me the surgery has been life changing. I've gone from having pain every day, only able to walk short distances, always bent over, to walk without pain completely upright. My quality of life has improved beyond measure. Mr Matthews has from the outset been approachable and professional. He has taken time to explain the options and possible outcomes at every stage. I always felt that I was in safe hands and twelve months down the line I can confirm that that was definitely the case. I am very grateful to him and would have no hesitation in recommending him to others.

Throughout my treatment with Mr Matthews, I have been most appreciative of the clarity with which explanations are provided. Mr Matthews is a highly professional Consulrant, he took time with me to explain and give all options open to me for future treatment. When he realised I was a very nervous patient regarding having Cortisone Injections Iin my knee ensured I didnt see the needle, got me a nurse for reassurance and even sprayed my knee until ice cold before injectioning.. Very happy with overall care and treatment whilst in hospital. Very pleased with speed of recovery and absence of pain during first weeks after operation. Needed nothing stronger than occasional Paracetamol. Able to drive safely and comfortably three weeks post operation. (Automatic car).

Mr Matthews has carried out full knee replacements on both knees, the most recent at the end of May 2026. I have found Mr Matthews to be understanding with a wonderful bedside manner. Nothing is too much trouble and at no point during my consultations was anything rushed. He listened and explained which was always reassuring.
