Dr. Deepu Thomas

Dr Deepu Thomas is a Forensic Psychiatrist with over a decade of experience of working as a consultant in both the NHS and the private sector. He attained his medical degree at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India in 2002. Dr Thomas also completed advanced training in the pharmacological management of various conditions and holds a Clinical Certificate from the British Association of Psychopharmacology. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK.

Dr Thomas has vast experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including: depression, bipolar affective disorders, anxiety disorder, adult ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and psychosis.

Dr Thomas also has expertise in medicolegal work and is a serving Medical Member on the First-tier Tribunal, Health, Education and Social Care Chamber (Mental Health). In addition to this, he also provides expert reports and oral evidence at court trials, parole board hearings and mental health tribunals.

Alongside his clinical and medicolegal work, Dr Thomas has a keen interest in teaching and has held honorary teaching positions at several leading medical schools in the UK, including University of University, University of Manchester and the University of Central Lancashire. He has supervised trainee psychiatrists and is a medical appraiser. Dr Thomas is also an examiner with the General Medical Council for the PLAB (medical licensing) examinations.

Dr Thomas served as the Medical Lead for the Mental Illness/Personality Disorder service at his services, in this role he was responsible for the line management and supervision of several consultants and specialty doctors. He also had active involvement in clinical governance, leading on investigations and the development of the medium secure personality disorder services.

He has participated in research projects, national and local audits, has been published in peer reviewed journals and has presented his work at international conferences.
