Dr Deepak Kejariwal is an experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist with more than 18 years of consultant practice. He works at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, where he is the lead consultant for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and has held a number of senior clinical and leadership roles within Gastroenterology, Medicine and Urgent & Emergency Care.
He has extensive experience in general gastroenterology and the investigation and treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms including abdominal pain, indigestion and reflux, altered bowel habit, diarrhoea, constipation and rectal bleeding. His particular areas of expertise include inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy and gastrointestinal disorders requiring diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic treatment.
Dr Kejariwal is an experienced endoscopist performing gastroscopy, colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, including therapeutic procedures such as polyp removal. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Research Interests
Dr Kejariwal has a longstanding interest in clinical research and has been involved in both NIHR and commercial clinical studies. His principal research interests include inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy, gastrointestinal cancer and nutrition. He has contributed to clinical studies and publications covering IBD therapies, iron-deficiency anaemia in IBD, Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal cancer, endoscopic practice and gastrointestinal cancer.
