David Dodd is a UK-based BACP Accredited Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. Through Rated Therapy, he offers confidential online therapy to adults across the UK and Europe.
David supports people who may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, depression, bereavement, trauma, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties or significant life changes. He also works with neurodivergent adults, including people with ADHD, offering space to explore how their experiences affect them without judgement or assumptions.
His approach is relational, collaborative and integrative. This means that therapy is tailored to the individual, rather than following one fixed method. David works at a pace that feels manageable and may draw on person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches where these are appropriate to the person’s needs and goals.
David aims to provide a calm, respectful and confidential therapeutic relationship in which clients can speak openly, reflect on what is happening in their lives, and develop greater understanding of themselves. Therapy may involve making sense of current difficulties, exploring patterns shaped by earlier experiences, and identifying changes that feel meaningful and sustainable. Clients remain central to the process, with their autonomy, preferences and wellbeing treated as fundamental.
David has six years’ experience and more than 4,000 clinical hours supporting adults in private practice, clinical, community and charity settings. Prior to moving into therapeutic work, he spent 10 years as a business owner. This experience also informs his understanding of the pressures associated with work, responsibility, change and balancing different areas of life.
He holds a Diploma of Higher Education in Psychology from the University of Huddersfield and has trained in Therapeutic Counselling. As a BACP Accredited member, David works within the BACP Ethical Framework, receives regular clinical supervision, and remains committed to continuing professional development.
A free 30-minute initial consultation is available for people who would like to discuss what they are looking for and consider whether working together feels like the right fit.

£55I had tried different methods of therapy before without great success, and did not have the most positive attitude about this time succeeding. However, when I first met David, he made me feel instantly at ease. He could tell how nervous I was, but by the end of the session I felt like I had known him for years. Over the years he has taught me various different techniques, some of which I still use on a daily basis. I find these extremely helpful when I need to ground myself. I have always felt that I could tell David absolutely anything. I have always been open and honest about some of my darkest thoughts, and I have never been met with any judgement. The space I share with David is safe, confidential and a real place for me to say exactly how I feel. I know that I always have support should I need to call on David, and for me this helps knowing I have support at any time, should I need it.
I worked with David as my therapist for a period of six months when I was suffering from depression. At the time, I was living in London and life had become increasingly stressful for a number of reasons, across both work and family life. I wasn’t sleeping properly, most days I struggled to feel positive or find a sense of purpose, and even simple everyday tasks had started to feel overwhelming. From my first sessions with David, I immediately noticed that his approach was different from other therapists I had worked with. He quickly understood my personality, behaviours and the way I processed things. From there, he helped me put practical routines and structure in place that gave me something tangible to work with. His advice, particularly around challenging negative thoughts and understanding the root causes of certain thought patterns and behaviours, was instrumental in helping me turn things around. He listens carefully, communicates with a kind and friendly openness, but importantly, he also holds you accountable when you start slipping away from the routines and processes you’ve agreed. David has a real ability to identify the underlying issues quickly and then help you build a practical routine and process for addressing them, all within a safe and open environment. His communication remained consistent throughout my journey, and he also helped me identify the disciplines and behaviours I needed to maintain a more positive outlook beyond therapy. After six months, I was discharged and haven’t looked back. I’m incredibly grateful for the support David gave me dur...
