About Clemmie Oliver

Clemmie Oliver is a Registered Associate Nutritionist (MSc, ANutr) and Qualified Nutritional Therapist (DipION, mBANT, CNHC) with more than seven years’ experience supporting people living with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) both in the UK and internationally. She regularly speaks on the subject of nutrition at events for organisations in the UK and abroad and works with IBD charities and companies as a nutrition advisor. Clemmie has also undertaken research into IBD with the University of Aberdeen.

Her personal experience of Ulcerative Colitis, ileostomy, J-pouch surgery, has shaped her career focus on supporting other patients with IBD. Recognising the lack of specialist nutritional guidance available to patients, she founded The Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (NALM) Clinic in 2018.

At NALM, Clemmie leads a team providing exceptional evidence-based nutrition support for people with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases like Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. The clinic works to empower patients with evidence-based personalised nutrition guidance, helps to remove fear from food, optimise nutritional intake, support symptom management, and ultimately improve quality of life. The clinic also ensures patients have access to other appropriate care, if needed, through collaboration with other IBD healthcare providers.

I have benefited immeasurably from my meetings with Clemmie. She is not only very knowledgeable about how to manage UC (having experience of it herself makes this knowledge more authentic), but also caring and empathetic. I’ve also found it useful that she had uploaded all the information and advice she has given to me on a portal so I have access to this even after our meetings have ended. I would highly recommend booking an appointment with Clemmie if you are suffering with IBD and my experience suggests that making changes to diet and lifestyle certainly helps. Finally, just to add that Clemmie offers personalised support and advice, which is a welcome alternative to scrolling the internet and being bombarded with information that is not always accurate or reliable.

I have been so lucky to find Clemmie. She has really helped my health by gently suggesting tweaks and additions to my diet (which has been stuck in a rut for years!). She is very knowledgeable about IBD and of course, it helps that she is a fellow sufferer. She really ‘gets it’. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. As well as being a professional, she’s a very lovely, caring person! I wouldn’t hesitate to 100% recommend her.

Working with Clemmie was a fantastic experience. Her knowledge and expertise in dealing with my health condition (Ulcerative Colitis) definitely helped us identify the nutrition gaps in my diet that were influencing some of my gut issues, which allowed us to implement changes in my diet to improve my health. Even beyond just nutrition, she also provided me with some really helpful information and guidance on living with my health condition and has given me tools and knowledge to be able to live with it moving forward.

Clemmie is utterly fantastic and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to nutrition and living with IBD and, in particular, a J Pouch. Clemmie completely understands the challenges facing those with IBD and J pouches and her tailored advice and guidance has had an unbelievably positive impact on my diet and gut issues. I felt improvements almost instantly after starting to implement Clemmie’s advice. I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with Clemmie and can’t recommend her enough to anyone needing support with nutrition and diet and particularly those requiring support to navigate their nutrition with IBD. Thank you so much Clemmie.

I had a pleasant experience whilst working with Clemmie dealing with my digestive issues after 2 decades of living with a ‘j pouch’. Clemmie was compassionate about my situation and very supportive. I found Clemmie to be very thorough. I provided her with a detailed diet and supplement regime and she gave me some very good advice, not only with regards to my digestive issues but to my hair thinning also.

“I sought help from The NALM Clinic as I wanted to improve my nutrition, lose weight and increase energy (basically get healthier) so that my new medication (Xeljanz) had the best opportunity to work effectively. Since working with Clemmie, I have entered substantial remission with negligible inflammatory markers (first time in 5 years); I have lost 10kgs and back to exercising 5-6 days per week. I am the healthiest I have been in 5 years. I finally have the energy and inclination to exercise regularly and enjoy eating a wide variety of nutritious food. I would really recommend The NALM Clinic - you won't regret investing in yourself and learning about how to build balanced nutritious meals.”

When my ulcerative colitis reached its lowest point in 2024, I had spent almost a year under-nourished and genuinely frightened to eat anything that might aggravate my symptoms. In trying to avoid feeling worse, I had essentially stopped eating all the foods that were actually good for me and all the foods I used to enjoy. Finding Clemmie was a turning point. She taught me how to manage food alongside flaring with ulcerative colitis, and gently guided me through adding foods back into my diet in a way that felt safe and achievable. A year later, I’m now eating everything I used to before I became unwell. I’m not in a flare right now, but the best thing about working with Clemmie is the confidence I now have for the future. If or realistically, when, I flare again, I know exactly how to look after myself through food rather than avoiding it. I understand the subtle changes I can make so I’m no longer limited to living off crumpets, eggs, plain pasta, and all the “white foods” that anyone with ulcerative colitis or IBD will be very familiar with during a flare. I would 100% recommend Clemmie if you’re looking for someone to support you through the nutritional side of IBD. You’ll be in incredibly safe hands. What mattered most to me was that Clemmie has been there - she truly understands this disease — and that made all the difference. I couldn’t recommend her more.

Clemmie helped me when I was at a real low after being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. She gave me confidence to eat again and not avoid certain foods. Once I got over the mental hurdles with her help, I was able to be adventurous, try things and eat healthily again. She helped me understand the disease and pointed me towards all the right resources. without her I would not be living the normal life I am now. I cannot thank her enough.

"Diet Doesn't Matter": Myth in IBD Care

"Diet Doesn't Matter": Myth in IBD Care

It’s time to end the “Diet Doesn’t Matter” Myth in IBD care. I can't believe I’m still meeting IBD patients who’ve been told that diet has nothing to do with their disease. Despite the significant advancements in diet and IBD research over the past decade and common sense (diet matters to everyone!), too many patients are being told diet doesn't matter in IBD. I am so passionate about educating and empowering patients and healthcare providers on the connection between diet and IBD and I wanted to share with you today a list of the most common reasons why diet and nutrition are vital to IBD management. So next time you are told diet doesn't matter you can refer to these!
