About Dr. Claudia Murton
Dr. Claudia Murton is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 19 years of medical experience, specialising in general adult psychiatry with a particular focus on liaison psychiatry. She is highly skilled in the assessment and treatment of adult mental health conditions, integrating evidence-based treatments with lifestyle interventions to provide holistic and patient-centered care. Dr. Murton’s unique expertise as an NHS liaison psychiatrist allows her to address both physical and mental health, ensuring comprehensive and personalised treatment plans that emphasise the mind-body connection.
Through her extensive career, Dr. Murton has gained vast experience in managing a wide range of mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, Autism and AuDHD (combined Autism and ADHD Assessments). She has a particular interest in treating functional disorders and medically unexplained symptoms, helping patients navigate complex and often misunderstood conditions.
Dr. Murton obtained her medical degree from Cardiff Medical School in 2005 and completed her specialist training in General Adult Psychiatry with an endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry in 2016. Since qualifying as a consultant, she has worked in various roles within community and inpatient psychiatry and currently serves as a Consultant and Clinical Lead in Liaison Psychiatry at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Murton is passionate about medical education. She holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Education and has published and presented research at national and international conferences, particularly focusing on functional symptoms. She actively teaches medical students and postgraduate doctors, aiming to improve awareness and understanding of these complex presentations and to enhance the overall quality of patient care.
Dr. Murton uses a patient centered approach, listening to patient concerns in order to work towards collaborative goals and empowering patients as they move through their recovery journeys.
Dr. Murton also offers bespoke private psychiatric care through her role as the CQC Registered Manager and Clinical Director at Porthia Mental Health Clinic, where she manages all aspects of patient care. Her commitment to clinical excellence and patient education enables her and the team to guide individuals toward meaningful life changes while helping patients better understand their conditions.

Dr Murton was everything we were hoping for. My adult son has pronounced social anxiety, and actively avoids going out, anywhere. They would normally leave situations within minutes, or not engage at all. However, Dr Murton's wonderful manner facilitated a productive meeting, where my son felt safe to discuss some very complex and difficult issues. Dr Murton's significant experience meant that she was able to pin-point a series of inter-related, complex factors and formulate a plan of action, which has led to my son changing the damaging behavior for which we sought help
I decided to visit Dr Murton after watching her video introducing herself when I was searching for a private psychiatrist. In the appointment I immediately felt at ease talking to her about everything and felt assured that she had the knowledge and experience to understand me and accurately diagnose or not. She was professional and understanding and the report she produced for me was very comprehensive and explained everything perfectly. I’m so glad that this option of private psychiatry was available with her. The assessment she made has helped me understand myself even more going forward in order to look at treatment and improve my mental health. The whole system she uses to book appointments and communicate is very quick and smooth to use and I wouldn’t hesitate to visit her again if I needed further help.
