About Mr Chris Schulz

Mr. Christopher Schulz is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based on the south coast, subspecialising in oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgery. He sees patients with conditions affecting the eyelids, tear drainage system, and orbit (the bony socket around the eye), including droopy upper lids (ptosis), in-turning and out-turning lids (entropion and ectropion), watery eyes, blocked tear ducts, eyelid lumps and skin cancers, thyroid eye disease, and orbital tumours. He also offers cosmetic upper and lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).

He holds his NHS consultant post at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, where he co-leads the multidisciplinary endoscopic lacrimal service and established the orbital decompression service for patients with thyroid eye disease.

His qualifications include Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and a Distinction MSc in Data Science from the University of Edinburgh. He is Section Editor for the journal Eye in oculoplastics, lacrimal, and orbit, and has published over thirty peer-reviewed papers and several book chapters in his subspecialty.

Mr Schulz teaches regularly on the Brighton Endoscopic Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery Course and is Undergraduate Lead for Ophthalmology at the University of Portsmouth, supervising medical students and ophthalmology trainees.

He believes in giving patients the time to understand their condition properly, the realistic options available, and the likely outcome of each. Where surgery is not the right answer, he will say so.

Very happy with my visit today. The Dr was extremely professional and took the time to listen to my health concerns. I needed 3 jabs of Botox near my right eye. Uncomfortable for a moment or two but soon over. I’m hoping that the treatment improves the spasms and helps me sleep.
