Dr. Catherine Fernando

Dr Catherine Fernando is a GP with a specialist interest in dermatology, based in East Lothian, Scotland. As a GP, she has experience in treating a wide array of conditions, and her specialist expertise in dermatology means she is able to treat conditions such as acne, eczema, rashes, psoriasis, rosacea and she can assess and diagnose moles. Dr Fernando holds additional specialist qualifications in obstetrics and gynaecology and sexual and reproductive health, and is passionate about women’s health. Her clinical approach is compassionate, warm, and friendly, and she enjoys consulting with both children and adults about a range of conditions. 

Dr Fernando graduated in 2001 from the University of Aberdeen, and since then has accumulated a significant amount of clinical experience. She has spent over 24 years working in the NHS in both hospital and community settings, including time spent as a specialist registrar in rheumatology, providing her with expertise in managing joint conditions. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and Royal College of Physicians, and holds a diploma in practical dermatology with distinction from Cardiff University, as well as diplomas in child health, obstetrics and gynaecology and sexual and reproductive health. 

Outside of her clinical work, Dr Fernando is enthusiastic about medical education, and works as a tutor for the South East of Scotland GP specialty training program. She speaks about topics in dermatology relevant to GPs regularly at conferences and events, and additionally writes educational articles for practitioners about skin diseases. She has additionally founded a company that creates luxury, sustainable medical bags designed specifically for women working in healthcare.
