Dr. Ben Gupta us consultant anaesthetist. One of his core skills is expertise in central venous access. He has developed a significant sub-specialist interest in this area to encompass expertise in long term central venous access devices (CVADS) and he places these devices on a weekly basis in the NHS during his work at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (part of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS trust).
In 2018 Dr. Gupta started offering this service to patients at both Spire Bristol and Nuffield Bristol hospitals and is currently the only professional able to offer this service in Southwest England, making him a specialist and very sought after professional.
Dr. Gupta qualified in 2004 from the University of Nottingham Medical School. After completing his training as a junior doctor at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, he commenced training in anaesthesia in Bristol becoming a consultant at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) NHS Foundation Trust in 2016.
As well as an interest in vascular access, Dr. Gupta also anaesthetises regularly for orthopaedic surgery, and obstetrics. He also maintains an interest in anaesthesia for resource poor environments having previously worked for the medical NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres and regularly teach and publish in this area.
