About Mr Bassem Mettias

Mr. Bassem Mettias is an ENT Consultant Surgeon based in Mid and South Essex, specialising in thyroid and parathyroid surgery, as well as head and neck cancer. With a wealth of experience spanning 21 years, his expertise includes managing sinus diseases, ear disorders, and voice and swallowing issues. He also has a strong interest in endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty, and various ear surgeries.

Mr. Mettias graduated from Cairo University in 2000 and completed an extensive ENT residency at Cairo University Hospital. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2007 and further refined his skills through a high-specialty program in Glasgow and East Midlands. In 2020, he was awarded his fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His specialisation in thyroid and head and neck cancer was solidified through participation in the National Training Interface Group of Surgical Oncology fellowship at Guy’s and St. Thomas Foundation Trust.

An active member of professional associations such as the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists, the British Association of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgery, and EN-UK Society, Mr. Mettias is also an academic contributor. He has a Master’s degree in Meniere’s disease and a Ph.D. focused on laryngotracheal stenosis. With 28 peer-reviewed publications, he is involved in national and regional research initiatives and continues to present at national and international conferences.

Mr. Mettias is committed to medical education, having served as a lecturer at Fayoum University and contributed significantly to dissection courses for core trainees and specialty registrars. He also plays an active role as a tutor for national academic ENT courses and supports the East of England deanery as a clinical and educational supervisor. He is an honorary lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford.

I came and saw Mr bassem Mettias at basildon hospital few weeks agk at the ENTclinic . From the get go he was so very professional had a calming pressence about him . Explained all that he was doing and whaf was the next procedure and action plan going forward . I also want to mention his secretary Alex talbot . She went above and beyond her role to help me . She was the person that i could contact with any concerns and she could relay to Mr Mettias . The NHS are very lucky to have these 2 individuals working for them. Thankyou both again .
