About Mr Bashar Raouf Mohammed

Mr Bashar Mohammed is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in diseases of the retina and ocular inflammation. His practice encompasses medical retina, uveitis and general and acute ophthalmology, with experience managing conditions ranging from age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease to retinal vein occlusion and scleritis. He also performs cataract surgery, including for patients with medical retinal conditions, intravitreal injections, steroid implants and retinal and YAG laser procedures.

Following basic ophthalmology training in the West Midlands and Bristol regions, Mr Mohammed undertook his higher specialist training in Aberdeen. He subsequently developed his expertise in medical retina and ocular inflammation through fellowship training in Bristol and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2013.

In 2017, Mr Mohammed was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. He served as Clinical Lead for emergency eye care there from January 2018 to January 2020, introducing protocols, guidelines and audits. He later became College Tutor at the centre, supporting the Royal College of Ophthalmologists' standards in ophthalmology training. In 2022, he moved to London to take up a consultant position at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

He holds a Master's degree in Medical Education from Warwick University and has conducted Training the Trainers workshops abroad, as well as presenting at local, national and international conferences. He has contributed to multi-centre studies at Bristol Eye Hospital and has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals. His educational roles also include participation in national selection panels for ophthalmology training and an appointment as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

I recently saw Mr. Bashar Muhammed after suffering an injury to my eye. He was very professional, caring, and thorough in assessing my condition. He performed several tests and prescribed the appropriate treatment, which was successful and helped significantly with my recovery. I had multiple follow-up visits with him, and at every appointment he was professional and courteous. He listened carefully, addressed all of my concerns, and performed the necessary tests to monitor my progress. I am sincerely grateful to Mr. Bashar Muhammed for the exceptional care, professionalism, and attention he provided throughout the course of my treatment. His thorough and conscientious approach was greatly reassuring, and I felt confident that I was receiving the highest standard of care at every stage. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone seeking expert ophthalmological consultation or treatment.
