About Mr Ali Raza

Mr. Ali Raza
Consultant Hip & Knee Surgeon | Specialist in Joint Replacement and
Complex Reconstruction

With over 1,000 successful hip and knee replacements to his name, Mr. Ali Raza is a leading consultant orthopaedic surgeon offering advanced, personalized care for patients seeking world-class joint replacement surgery. With more than 20 years of experience and a strong reputation for exceptional patient outcomes, Mr. Raza is a trusted name in the treatment of arthritic and complex hip and knee conditions.

Unmatched Expertise in Joint Replacement

Mr. Raza trained at some of the UK’s most prestigious orthopaedic institutions. He completed his core surgical training in Cambridge and Manchester, followed by advanced orthopaedic training at the Sir John Charnley Centre of Excellence for Hip Surgery, Wrightington — a globally renowned hub for joint replacement innovation. There, he worked alongside internationally recognized surgeons, mastering techniques focused on enhanced recovery, long-lasting implant performance, and optimal functional outcomes.

He completed his higher surgical training in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he also held a lecturer post at North Tees University Hospital, contributing to the education of future orthopaedic surgeons. He then pursued subspecialist fellowship training in Aberdeen, focusing on complex joint pathology, including dysplasia, AVN (collapsed joints), severe deformities, and revision surgery for failed implants.

Complex & Custom Joint Surgery

Mr. Raza performs all forms of hip and knee replacement — including cemented,
uncemented, and hybrid techniques — with a meticulous, patient-specific approach.

He is:

  • One of few surgeons in his NHS Trust performing complex revision surgery,  including acetabular and femoral reconstruction and periprosthetic fracture  management
  • Among the few orthopaedic surgeons in Scotland accredited to offer Conformis custom-made knee replacements, tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy for superior comfort, function, and longevity
  • A pioneer in Bariatric Arthroplasty, providing safe, effective joint replacement for patients with high BMI — an area often underserved in traditional practice

Precision, Recovery & Results

Mr.Raza’s surgical practice is grounded in cutting-edge technology, meticulous planning, and evidence-based protocols that reduce pain, promote faster recovery, and restore quality of life. He is particularly known for:

  • Delivering high-functioning, long-lasting joint replacements
  • Using minimally invasive techniques where appropriate
  • Providing exceptional outcomes even in complex and revision cases

A Personalised, Patient-Centred Experience

Known for his clarity and compassion, Mr. Raza ensures each patient receives a clear, jargon-free understanding of their condition and options. Whether recommending non-surgical interventions or advanced surgical treatment, he creates bespoke care plans that respect each patient’s goals, lifestyle, and health needs.

Teaching, Research & Recognition

Mr. Raza is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and actively involved in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. His research has been recognized nationally, including receiving the British Orthopaedic Association’s Best Translational Research Prize at the British Hip Society Conference in 2018.

He is a proud member of both the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), ensuring he remains at the
forefront of international best practice.

Very efficient visit to Ross Hall where I was seen on time, knee issue queried and some movements carried out to determine the problem and thereafter a quick visit downstairs to get some x rays taken. By the time I got back upstairs the x rays were examined and the initial findings confirmed. This was followed by a comprehensive explanation of the problem with different options of solutions provided with pros/cons and timescales indicated. I left the hospital with a good understanding of my knee issue and the facts to allow decisions to be made going forward. Overall a very positive experience and I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Ali Raza to future patients with knee issues.
