Dr. Akintayo Idowu

Dr Akintayo (Tayo) Idowu is a Senior General Practitioner, Clinical Educator, and Healthcare Innovator with over a decade of leadership experience across primary care, surgical services, and medical education. He is recognised for developing innovative patient care models, leading multidisciplinary teams, and driving operational improvements that enhance service quality and outcomes.

Dr Idowu obtained his MBBS from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School and a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from King’s College London, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education from Queen’s University Belfast. His broad expertise spans men’s health, minor surgical procedures, and integrated care delivery, with a particular focus on evidence-based, patient-centred practice.

As Chair of the Newry and District GP Federation, Dr Idowu plays a key role in promoting team-based and holistic models of care, ensuring collaboration across clinical and community services. He has extensive experience in mentoring junior doctors and leading clinical training programmes, strengthening professional standards and practitioner development.

Alongside his NHS work, Dr Idowu is expanding his private practice with a focus on men’s health and outpatient surgical services. Outside medicine, he is passionate about wellbeing, a dedicated marathon runner, and enjoys travel, culture, and property restoration.
