Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre

Woodlands is a purpose-built Neurological Rehabilitation Centre based in York, that provides specialist level two neurological rehabilitation and neurobehavioral services. The centre can offer support for a range of conditions including brain injury, spinal injury, stroke, progressive neurological conditions, Huntington's disease, peripheral neurological conditions such as Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and functional neurological disorders. Residents at Woodlands have access to a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a rehabilitation consultant, a junior doctor, neuropsychologists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, specialist nurses, and rehabilitation assistants.

The team are able to conduct SMART evaluations and provide individualized treatment strategies for individuals suffering from Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDoC). They also offer high-quality and intense neurological rehabilitation, as well as physical, cognitive, functional, and vocational assessments. Specialist nurses at the centre are able to provide care to those with ongoing neurological nursing needs including respiratory and tracheostomy care, diabetes, epilepsy, wound management, stoma care, enteral feeding, and management of long term intravenous access points.

The team at Woodlands also receive help from other allied healthcare professionals for resources such as dietetics, orthotics, podiatry, music therapy, and wheelchair services. This, along with the person-centred, evidence approach, enables the team to increase independence and recovery for its service users and equip them with valuable skills to return home or to a supported environment.
