What addictions and conditions does Linwood House treat?

Linwood House offers personalised residential detoxification and rehabilitation programmes covering a range of substance dependencies and behavioural addictions.

• Alcohol addiction: Treatment for alcohol dependency, problematic drinking and alcohol withdrawal, combining medically monitored detoxification where required with psychological therapies and relapse prevention.
• Drug addiction: Treatment for dependency involving cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, opioids, cannabis, ketamine, amphetamines, methamphetamine, MDMA, GHB/GBL and synthetic substances.
• Prescription medication dependency: Support for dependency involving benzodiazepines, codeine, co-codamol, prescription sleeping tablets and stimulant medications, subject to medical assessment.
• Behavioural addictions: Therapeutic support for gambling, gaming, compulsive internet use, shopping and problematic sexual behaviours.

Our programmes address both the physical effects of addiction and the psychological, emotional and behavioural factors that may contribute to dependency.

What therapies are available?

Treatment follows a structured daily programme tailored to individual needs. Depending on your care plan, therapies may include:

When can I start treatment, and how long does rehabilitation last?

Admissions are available seven days a week, with treatment often arranged within 24 to 48 hours of an initial enquiry, subject to clinical assessment, bed availability and individual circumstances. Arrivals are usually planned for 10am, 12pm or 2pm, following an online medical assessment with the admitting doctor.

Linwood House offers treatment options ranging from short detoxification stays to extended residential rehabilitation.

Available programme durations include 10, 14, 21, 28, 42, 56, 84 and 90 days, with extensions available where clinically appropriate.

Our 28-day programme is a popular option, allowing time for detoxification, therapeutic engagement and preparation for returning home. Longer stays provide additional opportunities to explore the underlying causes of addiction, develop recovery strategies and consolidate progress.

What is the UKAT 90-Day Promise?

Clients completing our 90-day residential programme may qualify for the UKAT 90-Day Promise.

Under this commitment, if you complete the qualifying programme and experience a relapse within 30 days of leaving, UKAT offers a further 28 days of residential treatment at no additional treatment cost, subject to the programme's eligibility terms and clinical assessment.

Our location is accessible from Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and other parts of Yorkshire, while welcoming clients from throughout the UK.

The refurbished residential centre provides a calm, structured environment where clients can step away from everyday pressures and concentrate on recovery.

How does detox and rehabilitation work at Linwood House?

Your treatment begins with a confidential assessment to understand your substance use, medical history, mental wellbeing and individual recovery goals.

Step 1: Confidential consultation

Our admissions team discusses your circumstances, explains available treatment options and helps determine the next appropriate step.

Step 2: Medical and suitability assessment

Before admission, your clinical needs are assessed. Where detoxification is required, a prescribing doctor assesses your medical history and determines an appropriate withdrawal-management plan.

Step 3: Medically monitored detoxification

If needed, detoxification takes place within our residential setting. Detox is available for alcohol, opiates and opioids (including heroin, methadone and buprenorphine), cocaine and crack cocaine, benzodiazepines, ketamine, GHB/GBL, amphetamines and methamphetamine, Spice and other synthetic drugs, and prescription and over-the-counter medications. Medical oversight is provided remotely by prescribing doctors, clients can register with a local GP as a temporary resident, and the centre’s care team provides 24-hour on-site support.

Linwood House does not have medical professionals permanently on site and may not be suitable for people requiring complex medical or nursing care.

Step 4: Residential rehabilitation and therapy

You participate in a structured treatment programme combining individual counselling, group work, recovery education and appropriate holistic activities. Your care plan is reviewed as treatment progresses.

Step 5: Discharge planning and aftercare

Before leaving, you receive support with relapse prevention and planning your return to everyday life. Eligible clients can access ongoing aftercare and connect with the UKAT Alumni Network.

How can I arrange admission?

Linwood House accepts self-funded clients and can discuss applicable private health insurance arrangements.

Our admissions team will explain programme availability, costs, clinical suitability and practical arrangements. A GP referral is not normally required to make an initial enquiry.

Linwood House is a non-nursing residential service. Individuals with complex medical needs, significant mobility difficulties or conditions requiring specialist clinical supervision may need an alternative treatment setting.
