IronOx Clinic is Cardiff's dedicated private iron infusion clinic — the UK's only independent hospital built entirely around iron infusion therapy. We are registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW/02039RM), the same regulator that inspects NHS facilities, and we are based at The Mews, 38 Cathedral Road, Pontcanna, Cardiff.

Iron is all we do. Not a GP side-service, not an add-on at a drip bar — every system in this clinic is built around finding and correcting iron deficiency.

WHY PATIENTS COME TO US

Iron deficiency is one of the most common and most missed causes of exhaustion. Most of our patients arrive after months of being told their bloods are "normal" — because a full blood count can look fine while ferritin, the body's iron store, is empty underneath. The symptoms we see every week: relentless fatigue, brain fog, hair shedding, breathlessness on the stairs, heart palpitations, restless legs at night, brittle nails and feeling cold all the time. The usual causes are heavy periods, pregnancy and the months after birth, coeliac disease, IBD, bariatric surgery, a plant-based diet, or endurance training.

Many have already tried iron tablets and given up — the nausea and constipation, or simply not absorbing them. An iron infusion bypasses the gut entirely: a single session can replace what would take five months or more of daily tablets.

WHAT WE DO

Free consultation — 30 minutes, doctor-led. No card, no deposit, no obligation.

Full iron panel blood test, £165 — ferritin, serum iron, transferrin saturation and full blood count, reviewed by a doctor. Bring blood results from the last six weeks and you may not need retesting.

Intravenous (IV) iron infusion of up to 1000mg, usually completed in one session. IronOx 500 £699, IronOx 1000 £899 — all-inclusive: consultation, clinical assessment, the infusion, 30 minutes of monitoring, aftercare, and a GP report within 24 hours.

A complimentary hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) session with every infusion. We are the UK's only clinic pairing iron and oxygen therapy.

Specific pathways for iron optimisation before surgery, iron infusion in pregnancy, postnatal iron correction, pre-conception iron optimisation, and low iron in runners and endurance athletes.

The infusion takes about 30 minutes with 30 minutes of monitoring afterwards — most patients are in and out within the hour, drive themselves home, and notice a clear improvement within one to two weeks. No fasting needed.

ACCESS AND SAFETY

No GP referral is required — you can self-refer and book online in two minutes. Consultations run on Mondays, infusions on Thursdays, and same-week appointments are the norm rather than a waiting list. IV iron is a NICE-recommended treatment; every infusion here is led by a doctor with acute medicine expertise and monitored throughout, with anaphylaxis protocols and emergency equipment on site as standard.

WHO LEADS THE CLINIC

IronOx was founded and is led by Dr Rukhsana Jabar (Dr Ros) — BSc (Hons) Pharm, MBBCh, PGDip Endo — a GMC-registered doctor with a background in accident & emergency and acute medicine, and decades in pharmaceutical science before medical training. Treatment is offered only when it is clinically indicated, never for commercial reasons.
