About Holybourne Hospital

Holybourne Hospital in Roehampton provides high-quality care in a safe and secure setting for men and women (18+) with severe and complex mental health problems. The hospital assists the NHS when local intensive care requirements cannot be met and feature two Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) and two Acute Units. The PICU wards are part of the Royal College of Psychiatry's Quality Network for PICU services which enables the hospital to learn from and share best practices with other experts in the sector.

Dr Mike Alcock (Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist) and Matt Beavis (Hospital Director) lead the highly experienced clinical team at Holybourne Hospital and are assisted by two consultant psychiatrists who provide further care to patients. The team is also supported by clinical psychologists, nurses, support staff, occupational therapists, art psychotherapists, activity coordinators, administrators, cleaning, catering, and maintenance personnel.

The hospital cares for patients across the UK who have been detained under the Mental Health Act and may be experiencing drug-induced psychosis, an unexplained psychotic episode, severe depression with suicide risk, mood disorders, a relapse of schizophrenia, personality disorder, or an increase in risky behaviours such as self-harm, suicide attempts, aggression, or sexually inappropriate behaviour. Patients may also be admitted if they require alcohol or drug detoxification or if they are under a community treatment order which has been revoked.

Twenty-eight rooms are available at the facility and are split across three wards. Patients also have access to a gym, an enclosed sports area, a designated art room, a therapy suite, an occupational therapy kitchen, a multi-faith room, and a therapy garden.
