HBOT Medics is a doctor-led hyperbaric oxygen therapy service based in Pontcanna, Cardiff. It is the hyperbaric arm of RosMedics (Pontcanna Hospital), an independent hospital registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales. Patients can access the service directly without a referral.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves breathing concentrated oxygen inside a chamber where the air pressure is higher than normal. At HBOT Medics, treatment takes place in a single-occupancy chamber, with 60-minute sessions at an operating pressure of 1.5 ATA.
People consider HBOT for a range of reasons, including recovery following radiotherapy, head injury and stroke recovery, unexplained fatigue, persistent pain, long-term conditions, non-healing wounds, and recovery following surgery or other procedures. HBOT Medics provides information about the available research for these different uses and highlights where evidence is limited or mixed.
Before entering the chamber, patients complete a health declaration so that any clinical considerations requiring review can be identified. A 20-minute doctor consultation is included with The Course to discuss the patient's history, the underlying reason they are considering HBOT and whether the available evidence is relevant. During treatment, patients remain in contact with the operator throughout the session and can stop at any point.

Does hyperbaric oxygen therapy cure cancer? No. Evidence for selected late radiation injuries is a separate question, with real limits on quality and pressure.
