Ear Care Specialists

Ear Care Specialists is an independent audiology clinic in Sherwood, Nottingham, established in 2021. Our aim is simple: to help improve the quality of life of people living with hearing loss and tinnitus, through expert, evidence-based care that is tailored to each person.

The clinic is led by Dr Jeff Davies, a dual-registered audiologist (AHCS) and hearing aid dispenser (HCPC) with a PhD in hearing loss and tinnitus. As an independent clinic, we are free to recommend whatever is genuinely right for you, and every appointment is unhurried, with time to listen, explain and answer your questions.

Earwax removal

We remove earwax by microsuction, a safe, dry method performed under an ENT operating microscope (x25 magnification), the gold standard in ear care. We do not use water irrigation or syringing. Each 30-minute appointment includes a full microscopic examination of the ears, the wax removal itself and clear advice, with further testing recommended if wax is not the only issue. We carry out more than 1,000 wax removals a year and see adults and children from around five or six years of age.

Hearing assessments

Our diagnostic hearing assessments include pure tone audiometry and tympanometry to assess your hearing and middle ear function, with video otoscopy so you can see inside your own ear canal. We explain your results in plain language and talk through your options with you. Adults only.

Hearing aids

We offer the latest AI-driven, rechargeable, Bluetooth-connected and discreet hearing aids from leading manufacturers including Phonak, Oticon, ReSound and Starkey. Every fitting is preceded by a thorough hearing aid assessment, and we insist on a free two-week trial before you decide to buy. Ongoing aftercare and fine-tuning help you get the very best from your hearing aids over the long term. Adults only.

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a particular specialism of the clinic, and we are an accredited tinnitus centre. Our in-depth tinnitus assessment looks at the auditory, cognitive and emotional aspects of tinnitus and leads to an individual management plan. We also offer a tinnitus-specific cognitive behavioural therapy programme delivered through the Oto platform. Beyond the clinic, we support Nottingham's tinnitus support group, which is affiliated with Tinnitus UK, so you need never feel you are managing tinnitus alone. Adults only.

Custom hearing protection

We take ear impressions for custom-made hearing protection to suit different activities and listening environments, including specialist musicians' earplugs. We are part of the Musicians' Hearing Health Scheme. Adults only.
