About Dyer Family Osteopathy
Dyer Family Osteopathy is the North East’s oldest continuous osteopathic practice, proudly serving Newcastle and the surrounding area for more than 70 years. Now into its third generation, the clinic combines classical osteopathy with honest, effective medical care tailored to every stage of life.
The practice began with Dr Haydon Dyer, who trained as an osteopath in 1952 after working as an ENT surgeon in Hong Kong and London. Moving to Northumberland in the mid-1950s, he established the clinic on Osborne Road in 1961, laying the foundation for a family tradition of compassionate osteopathic care. His son, Richard Dyer, qualified as an osteopath in 1990 and has practised here ever since. In 2024, his daughter, Lily Dyer, joined the clinic after completing her degree in Biomedical Sciences and training at the European School of Osteopathy, continuing the family legacy.
The clinic treats patients of all ages, from newborns to those over 100. For adults, osteopathy can support a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints, including back and neck pain, sciatica, arthritic pain, sports injuries, frozen shoulder, and headaches related to neck strain. For children and babies, the team draws on specialist training in paediatric osteopathy, using gentle cranial and structural techniques to help with issues such as colic, torticollis, and head-turning preferences. For expectant mothers, treatments are carefully adapted to the unique demands of pregnancy, helping the body adjust to postural and ligament changes while offering relaxation and relief.

David has been helping me with many problems such as hip pain, shoulder pain and also headaches! Since seeing David I have not suffered with any headaches and my other issues resolved and managed well. He is amazing at his job very friendly and really knows his stuff! 100% recommend
David is such an amazing practitioner, empathetic, kind and very skilled with his hands my back is feeling so much better already !
I've been seeing David for just over a year now for various issues. He's helped me with long term migraines and persistent headaches, a rolled ankle, lower back pain, shoulder injuries, and generally kept my body from falling to bits from working 9 hours a day at a desk and running around after two little people!
Really impressive work from David, got right to the bottom of my knee pain and guided me to full recovery.

I had serious shin splints before a big race and David treated me gently and extremely effectively, I felt lighter and the pain went away almost immediately afterwards, and I was able to run my race the following week with no problems by following his advice
I received treatment for lower back pain, head & neck mobility, and post surgical ankle rehabilitation. The treatments resulted in immediate pain relief and mobility improvements and helped me get back to work and training quickly. So all in all very happy with the results!

What a welcoming place, old and familiar, I originally saw haydon dyer many years ago. Lily was very warm and made me feel comfortable from arrival. I had severe back pain which has lessened now and i feel very informed with how to try prevent future episodes. I can really recommend this practice.
