💧 Not all tears are the same!

July is Dry Eye Awareness Month, and there’s no better time to learn about the incredible science of your tears.

👁️ You actually produce three types of tears:
– Basal tears that keep your eyes lubricated
– Emotional tears that flow when you feel deeply
– Reflex tears that protect you from irritants

Each tear type contains a delicate mix of oil, water, and mucus and when that balance is disrupted, it can lead to dry eye symptoms.

If your eyes often feel gritty, tired or irritated, you don’t have to put up with it.

👉 Book a dry eye assessment today and let us help you find lasting relief.

Why patients love SMILE:
✔️ Fast recovery
✔️ Reduced dryness
✔️ Incredible precision

But here’s what really matters: you’re unique. That’s why every treatment plan we create is fully personalised to your eye health and vision goals.

Because when it comes to your vision, you deserve nothing less than the best possible care and the best possible outcome. 👁️

🌍 Happy World Ophthalmologist Day! 👁

As Friday draws to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate the amazing ophthalmologists who make Cathedral Eye Clinic what it is.

Founded in 2008 by an ophthalmologist, Cathedral Eye Clinic has been led from day one by Professor Johnny Moore. A man whose commitment to innovative technology, research and patient care has made him one of the world’s most renowned eye surgeons.

Today, we’re proud to have a wonderful team of Ophthalmologists, including the only two surgeons in Northern Ireland to hold the prestigious FWCRS (Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences) title — Professor Moore and Mr Niraj Mandal. This is a qualification that represents the absolute highest level of skill, expertise, and dedication in refractive surgery.

We’re owned by an ophthalmologist, led by an ophthalmologist and inspired every single day by ophthalmologists. Their passion is the reason we’re one of the most advanced eye hospitals in Ireland and why we can help so many people see the world more clearly.

So today, we just want to say… thank you Prof Moore & team!

✨ EYE ON EXCELLENCE ✨
Yesterday, Cathedral Eye Clinic was proud to host our Eye on Excellence event at the beautiful Culloden Estate & Spa, bringing together Optometrists from right across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland for a full day of hands-on clinical learning.

Our consultants delivered practical teaching across a wide range of specialties, covering conditions and treatments such as glaucoma, keratoconus, periocular skin disease, ICL insertion and more. Delegates had the opportunity to learn directly from our team, strengthening their skills and confidence in managing patients in practice.

At Cathedral, we believe the very best patient care happens when hospitals and community Optometrists work hand in hand. That’s why we invest in events like this – ensuring your local Optometrist has direct access to the latest knowledge and techniques from our specialists.

The result? Patients across NI and ROI can feel safe, supported and confident that their eye health is in the best hands, locally and at Cathedral.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for making it such a memorable day. 🙌

Last night, we were delighted to host our Hands On Dry Eye CPD Workshop at the clinic, welcoming optometrists from across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to experience how we approach dry eye management as an integral part of our patient care.

At Cathedral Eye Clinic, we know that managing the ocular surface is essential to achieving the best surgical outcomes. That’s why our dedicated Dry Eye Clinic operates as part of a fully integrated, consultant-led surgical pathway, using specialist diagnostic technology, evidence-based treatment protocols and in-depth research to ensure every patient’s eyes are in optimal condition before and after surgery.

The session was led by Rebecca, our Dry Eye Specialist & Research Optometrist and Christopher Crawford, Principal Optometrist; who demonstrated how our evidence-based, patient-centred approach supports the highest standards of care at Cathedral Eye Clinic.

These small, interactive workshops are a fantastic opportunity for optometrists to get valuable hands-on time with our diagnostic devices, deepening their understanding of the latest advancements in dry eye management.

We’re proud to offer an approach that’s exclusive to Cathedral Eye Clinic- where world-class care, advanced diagnostics, and pioneering research come together for the benefit of our patients.
