About Breast Cancer Kent
Breast Cancer Kent is a charity committed to improving the lives of those diagnosed with breast cancer in the Kent area. Breast Cancer Kent is a fundraising hub and allocates the donations they receive to fund both small and large projects, research equipment. They also spread awareness to the Kent community about breast cancer, as well as providing general information about breast cancer and treatments for breast cancer.
The charity was originally set up by Consultant Mr Peter Jones and his wife, also a consultant, Sue Jones under the name the 'Mid Kent Breast Cancer Research Appeal' in 1996. The charity was established with an aim to fundraise for medical research surrounding the diagnosis, prevention, causes and treatment of breast cancer. Since then, both Mr and Mrs Jones have retired with Breast Cancer Kent taken over by a team of volunteers, healthcare professionals and consultants. The charity's vision widened to not only fundraising for medical research, but for improving the lives of people diagnosed with breast cancer in Kent.
The funds are focused on supporting the work of the NHS trusts, this may be through funding study for breast cancer nurses, providing transport for those attending breast cancer clinics or providing funding for state-of-the-art breast cancer equipment which innovates the breast cancer diagnosis process.
Since its establishment, Breast Cancer Kent has provided funding for several valuable projects in the Kent area, including: funding equipment for research at the University of Kent, funding a state-of-the-art Hologic prone table and funding tomosynthesis equipment at Maidstone Breast Clinic.
