Dr Hoey originally gained her MBChB from the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1999. Dr Arif Aslam is a popular, leading, experienced Consultant Dermatologist and double fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon.

After working in the NHS for two years as a substantive consultant dermatologist and Mohs surgeon he spent two years overseas - in New Zealand and Perth, Western Australia where he completed a second intensive fellowship through the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) in Mohs micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology under the tutelage of internationally known Clinical A/Prof Carl Vinciullo at Oxford Dermatology and Day Surgery, in Perth, WA; a referral centre for the most difficult and recurrent cases in Western Australia. There he completed over 1,500 surgeries with additional training in laser and cosmetic dermatology. 

The American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) is the world leading membership organisation of more than 1500 fellowship-trained skin cancer and reconstructive surgeons specalising in the Mohs micrographic surgical technique pioneered by Dr Frederic E Mohs. He is one of only a few dermatologists in the UK and Europe with this accreditation and the only UK dermatologist with membership of both the Australasian College of Dermatologists and American College of Mohs Surgery.

Mohs micrographic surgery is a dermatologist provided scar-minimising surgical technique for skin cancer which has the highest cure rate of any treatment. What is a dermatologist? 

Dermatology is a branch of medicine dealing with the skin, a speciality with a medical as well as a surgical component. Essentially a dermatologist is a specialist tasked with managing diseases affecting the skin, the hair, the mucous membranes, and the nails. They sometimes also deal with cosmetic problems.

Most dermatologists are also skin surgeons, important since there’s been a worldwide rise in rates of skin cancer, the commonest cancer of all. When to see a dermatologist?

Your first visit to a dermatologist might come about thanks to a referral by your GP or family doctor.
