Tumi Sefolo

Ms Boitumelo ‘Tumi’ Sefolo, is a highly experienced and DHA-licensed Clinical Psychologist at LifeWorks Dubai with over 13 years of expertise in the field. She also serves as a committee chair for the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 52 of International Psychologists, showcasing her commitment to advancing the field of psychology on a global scale. Ms Sefolo completed her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Limpopo, South Africa in 2007 and is currently completing her PhD in International Psychology in the United States.

Ms Sefolo is deeply passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families cultivate healthier relationships. She uses a family systems-oriented approach and her extensive knowledge in the dynamics of relationships to foster empathy and provide unconditional acceptance to facilitate transformative experiences. Her goal is to empower individuals to lead more fulfilling lives and establish meaningful connections.

At LifeWorks, Ms Sefolo plays a vital role in the Employee Assistance Program, using her expertise to support multiple prominent corporations through psycho-educational talks, workshops, and program development. She is dedicated to assisting the employees of Dubai and their families in navigating migration challenges, relationship issues, and cultural differences.

Ms Sefolo is also Certified in the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP) in Canada. Using this she employs evidence-based interventions to minimise disability and psychosocial stress resulting from illness or injury in her clients. She also has expertise in neurological assessments, enabling her to identify and manage neuropsychological conditions associated with injuries and work incapacity. Additionally, she has extensive experience as a forensic expert from evaluating the impact of personal injury on future functioning, providing reports, and testifying in the High Court of South Africa.

Ms Sefolo adopts a culturally sensitive approach in her assessments and interventions, respecting and considering the cultural backgrounds of individuals to ensure effective treatment. Alongside her work in medical and mental health settings, she actively engages in media appearances and public speaking events. She has also served as an adjunct lecturer/professor at a South African university and has made notable contributions to articles in South Africa and mental health products in Kuwait.
