Not everything prepares you for negative news, and not every person can build you up when you hear those life-changing words. I never thought in my life I would have to brace myself at such a young age. I was only 17 when I received the news that I had cancer. At first, it didn't even feel real. Yet, amid the shock, I was fortunate enough to have caught it early, and even more fortunate to be placed in the hands of an amazing doctor, someone I quite literally owe my life to. She taught me that it is okay to be scared, to be worried, to cry, and even to live life like nothing is wrong. But she also taught me that it is never okay to give up entirely, nor is it okay to live in complete denial. Every single day felt like a mountain to climb, but with time, those hard days passed, one by one. Healing isn't easy, but having the right support makes the impossible feel manageable. To Dr. Tanvi Sood and her incredible team: you were my heroes through the darkest storm of my life.
