Professor Ralf Herwig is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based in Dubai with over 25 years of clinical experience in Urology. He currently sees patients at German Medical Center, as well as Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital, Emirates Specialty Hospital and Medcare Hospital.

Prof Herwig completed his medical degree at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Munster, Germany in 1993. After qualifying he completed his general surgery training at the University Clinic of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Munster where he gained expertise in all areas of general surgery. He later completed his specialist training in Urology in both Germany and Ireland at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, Coombe Hospital and the James Connolly Memorial Hospital. Prof Herwig also holds a PhD and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK). He became an Associate Professor of Urology at the Medical University of Vienna in 2005. He moved to the UAE in 2016 and began practicing as a Specialist in Urology in the DHCC at German Medical Center.

He has expertise in all areas of urology, with particular interests in urinary tract infections, kidney and urinary tract stones, prostate diseases (including hypertrophy, inflammation and tumours) and male organ curvature and deformities. He is skilled in microscopic varicocelectomy among other surgical procedures.

Prof Herwig is well recognised for his clinical expertise, having invented a number of patents for innovative medical equipment, including diagnostic tools, surgical retractors and even medication. Outside of his clinical practice, he is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Genitourethral Reconstruction section of the BIoMed Research International journal and Organiser of the Viennese Symposium of Reconstructive Surgery. He has authored several books in his field of expertise and has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers in many high impact journals.
