Dr. Ala Sharara

Dr Ala Sharara serves as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Clemenceau Medical Center and holds the position of Professor of Medicine at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. Previously, he held the role of Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at AUBMC from 2002 to 2017. Additionally, Dr Sharara is a Consulting Professor at Duke University in Durham, NC, USA, where he underwent training and obtained American Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the Royal College of Physicians (London).

Alongside his clinical practice, he is a member of various professional organisations, Dr Sharara is affiliated with the AGA (American Gastroenterological Association), ACG (American College of Gastroenterology), WEO (World Endoscopy Organization), ECCO (European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization), and the Lebanese Society of Gastroenterology. His extensive expertise and contributions in the field reflect his commitment to advancing gastroenterological knowledge and patient care.
