Dr Walter Hendrikse

Dr Walter Hendrikse is a highly dedicated General Practitioner who provides comprehensive primary care to the Murwillumbah community. With a patient-centred approach, Dr Hendrikse is committed to delivering high-quality, reassuring medical care. He manages a broad spectrum of general practice concerns, ensuring that patients of all ages receive personalised and thorough medical attention. Dr Hendrikse grew up in a rural area of the Netherlands and completed his medical training at Erasmus University Rotterdam, graduating in 1997 with a Doctor of Medicine. After relocating to Australia, he gained valuable experience working in the Kimberley region before settling in Murwillumbah. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and holds an Advanced Clinical Certificate in Dermoscopy as well as an Advanced Clinical Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery. Additionally, he is an active member of both the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Skin Cancer College Australasia.

A major area of clinical interest for Dr Hendrikse is Skin Cancer Medicine. As an accredited Skin Cancer Physician, he runs dedicated clinics focusing on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of skin cancers. His expertise encompasses comprehensive skin checks, spot checks, diagnostic biopsies, and both surgical and non-surgical management of skin malignancies. To further support his patients, Dr Hendrikse regularly assists a visiting Plastic Surgeon with complex skin cancer surgeries at the local district hospital, ensuring a seamless and expert continuum of care.
