Dr Vivek Chowdhury

Dr Vivek Chowdhury is a highly qualified and dedicated Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon who provides comprehensive, patient-centred care. With a focus on delivering world-class expertise in a reassuring and relaxed environment, he is committed to helping patients achieve optimal visual health. Dr Chowdhury specialises in advanced cataract surgery and the management of complex corneal diseases, offering tailored treatment pathways for a wide range of ocular conditions. His clinical approach prioritises clear communication, ensuring that patients are fully informed and comfortable throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Chowdhury completed his medical degree with First Class Honours at the University of Sydney in 1998. He subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of New South Wales for his groundbreaking research into the development of a bionic eye for blind patients, which included a research fellowship at a prestigious medical school in the United States. He completed his specialist training in ophthalmology at a major tertiary referral hospital and a leading paediatric hospital in Sydney, during which he was awarded the Filipic Greer Medal. To further refine his skills, he undertook a highly competitive fellowship in advanced cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and corneal transplantation at a world-renowned eye hospital in London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, having qualified in 2009.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Chowdhury is actively involved in research and the education of future Ophthalmologists. He serves as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School and has previously contributed as an Examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. His research in corneal, cataract, and retinal diseases has been published extensively in peer-reviewed international medical journals, and he has been the recipient of several prominent research grants.
