Dr Vinay Kumar

Dr Vinay Kumar is a dedicated General Psychiatrist who specialises in the treatment of adolescent, adult, and older persons' mental health concerns. He provides comprehensive care for a wide range of psychiatric conditions, focusing on delivering evidence-based, compassionate support to help patients navigate their mental health journeys. His clinical approach is patient-centred, ensuring that individuals receive personalised treatment plans tailored to their unique needs and circumstances.

Dr Kumar obtained his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Following his graduation, he completed his specialist psychiatric training across Queensland and Melbourne. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice and ongoing professional development in the field of mental health.

With a broad range of clinical interests, Dr Kumar has a particular focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and bipolar disorder. He also provides specialised support for perinatal disorders, including postnatal depression, as well as managing complex conditions such as schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and various addictive behaviours. In addition to clinical treatment, he conducts detailed Item 291 assessments to assist General Practitioners with ongoing patient care plans, and offers assessments for individuals seeking early access to superannuation on mental health grounds, such as for infertility treatment, driving assessments, or licence requirements.
