A/Prof Troy Gianduzzo ("Dr Troy") MBBS, MPhil, MBA, GAICD, AFRACMA, FRACS, FUSANZ is an experienced urologist and internationally recognised leader in prostate cancer surgery, with particular expertise in robotic prostatectomy and minimally invasive urological oncology. He has performed more than 1,700 major robotic and laparoscopic urological surgeries and is internationally accredited as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the U.S.-based Surgical Review Corporation.
Dr Troy pioneered the "Retzius-Sparing" robotic radical prostatectomy technique in Australia with his colleague Dr Philip Dundee from Melbourne. Together they published Australia's first series of this approach. This technique leads to a significantly faster recovery of urinary continence after surgery compared to the standard robotic prostatectomy approach. Dr Troy is one of only a few surgeons in Australia to offer Retzius-Sparing robotic radical prostatectomy.
Dr Troy is also a leader in prostate cancer focal therapy and was one of the first surgeons in Australia to offer NanoKnife IRE focal therapy. This technique aims to minimise side effects of treatment by allowing the surgeon, in carefully selected patients, to treat just the cancerous spot in the prostate rather than the whole gland. Dr Troy offers a broad range of prostate cancer treatment options allowing patients access to individualised and evidence-based care pathways. In addition to his prostate cancer focus, he also provides comprehensive general urology services for adult patients, with a particular focus on benign prostatic enlargement.
Dr Troy completed his medical degree at The University of Queensland in 1995 and finished specialist urological training in 2004. He subsequently undertook nearly four years of advanced fellowship training in urological oncology, laparoscopic surgery, and minimally invasive urological procedures in both the United Kingdom and the United States. During this period, he was invited to complete a prestigious fellowship at the internationally renowned Glickman Urological Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr Troy has been practising at The Wesley Hospital since 2007 and is actively involved in leadership and professional organisations within urology locally and nationally. He serves as the Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Urological Surgeons and is a board member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, an Associate Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, a member of the Australian Medical Association, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and holds an MBA from the University of Queensland (2016). He has held several leadership positions at The Wesley Hospital including Chair of the Wesley Medical Advisory Committee (2017-2025), and Chair of the Urology Craft Group (2015-2025). He is the current Chair of the Wesley Robotics Committee.
Outside medicine, Dr Troy is an accomplished classical guitarist and is preparing for his ATCL performance diploma through Trinity College London.
