Dr Timothy Charles O'Brien

Dr Timothy Charles O'Brien is a dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner who is deeply passionate about delivering high-quality, evidence-based healthcare. He believes that general practice offers a unique opportunity to not only treat illnesses but also prevent them, allowing him to advocate for his patients at every stage of their health journey. Known for his relaxed yet thorough approach, Dr O'Brien ensures that each patient receives ample time during consultations, fostering a supportive environment where individuals feel heard and valued. He is particularly motivated by the complexity and variety of family medicine, finding great satisfaction in helping patients make positive lifestyle changes, such as incorporating regular exercise into their daily routines.

Dr O'Brien completed his Bachelor of Science in 2007 before pursuing postgraduate medical training at the University of Queensland, where he qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2011. Committed to achieving the highest standards in primary care, he gained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2017. Demonstrating a strong commitment to leadership and professional development within the medical community, he was invited to join the RACGP Future Leaders Programme in 2023. He is also actively engaged with local primary health networks and the RACGP to drive quality improvement and innovation in healthcare delivery.

Prior to focusing on community-based medicine, Dr O'Brien gained extensive clinical experience across several major healthcare institutions. He completed three years of training at a prominent tertiary hospital, followed by dedicated rotations at a leading paediatric hospital, a major private hospital, and several rural healthcare facilities. This diverse background has equipped him with a broad range of clinical skills. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr O'Brien is passionate about medical education and serves as a Supervisor for General Practice Registrars, helping to guide and mentor the next generation of medical professionals.
