Dr Tim Coughlan is a highly dedicated Nephrologist and Consultant Physician who specialises in all areas of renal medicine. Dr Coughlan began his academic journey at the University of Cambridge, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Natural Sciences in 2005. He then pursued his medical training at the University of Sydney, qualifying with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2009. Following his initial medical studies, he undertook advanced training in nephrology across several major health services. In 2017, Dr Coughlan was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, cementing his status as a leading Specialist in his field. He also holds an academic appointment as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in rural health.

Throughout his career, Dr Coughlan has developed extensive expertise in managing complex renal disorders. His clinical interests encompass the diagnosis and treatment of acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and essential and secondary hypertension. He is also highly skilled in addressing glomerulonephritis, non-glomerular inflammatory renal disorders, and inherited or congenital renal conditions. In addition to medical management, Dr Coughlan performs specialised procedures such as percutaneous renal biopsies for both native and transplanted kidneys, providing a holistic approach to renal diagnostics and care.
