Dr Sheila Sivam

Dr Sheila Sivam is a highly qualified Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Physician who provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing a wide range of breathing and sleep-related disorders. With a compassionate and patient-centred approach, she focuses on diagnosing and managing complex conditions to improve her patients' overall quality of life. Her clinical expertise spans general respiratory conditions as well as specialised sleep disorders, ensuring that individuals receive tailored, evidence-based treatment plans.

Dr Sivam completed her initial medical training in Nova Scotia, Canada, where she obtained her Doctor of Medicine in 2003. She then undertook advanced specialist training in Boston, Massachusetts, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Upon moving to Sydney, Australia, she completed her advanced Fellowship requirements in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. In addition to her medical degree, she holds a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) and a Doctor of Philosophy, which investigated the impacts of obesity and under-breathing on cognitive and cardio-metabolic health. Dr Sivam is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Throughout her career, Dr Sivam has developed a particular interest in managing less common sleep disorders, including narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia. Her clinical practice also encompasses the management of obstructive sleep apnoea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and parasomnias. On the respiratory side, she is dedicated to treating conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, and respiratory infections. Her active involvement in clinical research and academic trials ensures she remains at the forefront of the latest advancements in her field, translating cutting-edge science into everyday patient care.
