Dr Breman Janarthanan

Dr Breman Janarthanan is a Consultant Respiratory and Sleep Physician and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, with expertise in asthma, airway disease, interstitial lung disease, lung nodule assessment, sleep disorders, and complex respiratory failure.

He completed his medical degree at James Cook University before undertaking specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine at major Australian teaching hospitals, including The Prince of Wales Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, and The Canberra Hospital.

During his specialist training, Dr Janarthanan completed advanced rotations including six months in lung transplant medicine and a further year focused on respiratory failure and sleep medicine. This provided him with extensive expertise in managing complex respiratory conditions, including chronic and advanced respiratory failure syndromes.

He currently works as a staff specialist at The Canberra Hospital, where he continues to provide care for patients with complex lung disease, sleep disorders, and respiratory failure. His clinical interests include asthma, airway disease, interstitial lung disease, lung nodule evaluation, and investigation of persistent daytime sleepiness.

Dr Janarthanan has particular expertise in respiratory failure, including conditions such as obesity hypoventilation syndrome and neuromuscular respiratory disease. He is fluent in Tamil, which supports clear communication with a diverse patient population.
