Dr Sara Wahlroos

Dr Sara Wahlroos is a highly dedicated Medical Oncologist who specialises in the treatment of upper gastrointestinal (GI) and breast cancers. With a strong commitment to providing comprehensive, patient-centred care, she combines clinical expertise with a compassionate approach to support patients through their cancer treatment journeys. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Wahlroos is actively involved in early-phase clinical trials, helping to bring innovative therapies and cutting-edge treatment options to those under her care.

Dr Wahlroos completed her undergraduate degree in Medical Science with Honours at Flinders University in South Australia, before obtaining her post-graduate medical degree from the University of Sydney in 2010. She undertook advanced training in oncology, completing a specialised breast cancer fellowship, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in December 2017. Demonstrating a deep commitment to oncology research, she was awarded her PhD from the University of New South Wales in June 2021, focusing on the effects of exercise on breast cancer biology. Alongside her clinical work, she serves as a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of New South Wales and an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame, whilst also co-ordinating an early career research programme and contributing to the training of future medical professionals as a Network Director of Physician's Training.

Driven by a passion for holistic patient care, Dr Wahlroos is a strong advocate for integrating supportive therapies, such as exercise medicine, into standard oncology care. Her research interests focus on how physical activity can positively influence cancer biology and serve as a supportive adjunct to chemotherapy, particularly for patients undergoing treatment for pancreatic and breast cancers. By bridging the gap between laboratory research and clinical practice, Dr Wahlroos ensures her patients receive evidence-based, holistic care tailored to their individual needs.
