Dr. Ruth Mitchell is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with a strong focus on paediatric neurosurgery, epilpesy surgery, and brain tumour management. She is currently based in New South Wales, practising at Sydney Children’s Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital.
Dedicated to advancing neurosurgical knowledge, Dr. Mitchell conducts research to better understand neurosurgical disease in Australia and across the world. Her work has been supported by numerous grants and scholarships from organisations including Cancer Australia and the Brain Foundation. She is an active contributor to medical science through publications, presentations, and expert commentary.
Dr. Mitchell serves on several professional committees, including the Women in Neursorugery Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, and is deputy chair and board member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Foundation for Surgery. She has also been a longstanding advocate for medical trainees and has held multiple roles within the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainees’ Association. Additionally, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work with the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).
