Dr Richard Bonwick

Dr Richard Bonwick is a highly respected Consultant Psychiatrist who specialises in Old Age Psychiatry and General Adult Psychiatry. With a compassionate and patient-centred approach, he provides comprehensive psychiatric care tailored to the unique needs of older individuals. Dr Bonwick has a particular clinical interest in treating ageing veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its associated comorbidities, helping patients navigate complex mental health challenges with dignity and support.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr Bonwick has held several prominent leadership roles, including serving as a Medical Director and Programme Director for specialised old age psychiatry and transcranial magnetic stimulation services. He is also dedicated to psychiatric education and research, serving as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, where he has contributed to curriculum development and medical student training. His academic contributions include authoring book chapters on psychosis in the elderly and publishing research on innovative treatments such as repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) for major depression.

Dr Bonwick obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) in 1995. He is an accredited Member of the RANZCP Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age, having previously served as the Chair of its Victorian branch and as a Member of its binational executive. Additionally, he is an active Member of the RANZCP Military and Veterans' Mental Health Network and has contributed his expertise to national practitioner support services focusing on post-traumatic mental health.
