Dr Paul Downe

Dr Paul Downe is a highly qualified Consultant Haematologist and Clinical Pathologist who provides comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of blood disorders. With a dual focus on clinical and laboratory haematology, Dr Downe is dedicated to diagnosing and managing complex haematological conditions. His clinical practice encompasses the investigation and treatment of red blood cell disorders, clotting abnormalities, and bone marrow disorders, ensuring that patients receive precise, evidence-based care tailored to their individual needs.

In his day-to-day practice, Dr Downe has a particular clinical interest in disorders of the bone marrow. He regularly performs and analyses bone marrow biopsies, combining his clinical expertise with laboratory pathology to deliver accurate diagnoses. His areas of expertise also include managing patients with anaemia, other blood count abnormalities, bleeding and clotting disorders, thalassaemia, and haemoglobinopathies. By bridging the gap between direct patient care and laboratory diagnostics, he is able to offer a seamless and reassuring experience for individuals navigating complex haematological diagnoses.

Dr Downe graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from The University of New South Wales in 2005. Following his general residency, he completed extensive training as a Physician and undertook specialist training in both clinical and laboratory haematology. This rigorous training pathway led to dual fellowships, and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He also serves as a Director of Clinical Services, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to maintaining high standards of clinical care.
