Dr Angela Chou

Dr Angela Chou is a Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Supportive Care Physician with expertise in chronic kidney disease, hypertension, glomerular disease, dialysis, transplantation, and pregnancy-related renal complications.

She holds a clinical appointment at Nepean Hospital and completed her specialist nephrology training across major tertiary centres including St George Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, and Prince of Wales Hospital. This training provided extensive experience in both acute renal medicine and long-term management of chronic kidney disease.

Dr Chou’s clinical practice includes the full spectrum of kidney care, with a strong focus on kidney supportive care. She works closely with patients to support shared decision-making, particularly in advanced chronic kidney disease, where treatment pathways such as dialysis or conservative kidney management are carefully considered based on patient goals and quality of life.

Her research focuses on chronic kidney disease in older adults. Her doctoral thesis, Shared Decision Making in Older Patients with Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease: dialysis or conservative kidney management, received first place in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Research Awards for Excellence in 2021.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr Chou is actively involved in medical education. She serves as Academic Renal Unit Co-ordinator for the University of Sydney Master of Internal Medicine programme, a role she has held since 2019.
