Dr Nemes Sandanayake

Dr Neomal Sandanayake is an experienced Specialist Gastroenterologist based in Sydney’s north shore. He currently sees private patients at North Shore Private Hospital, Northern Gastroenterology and Sydney Gastrointestinal Specialists. He also offers services at Macquarie University Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital and Mater Hospital.

Dr Sandanayake earned his medical degree from The University of Sydney in 1998 before undertaking his physician and gastroenterology training at Royal Prince Alfred, Concord, and Royal North Shore Hospitals from 1998 to 2005. In 2006, he relocated to the United Kingdom for an endoscopy Fellowship at University College London Hospital. Over the following years, from 2007 to 2010, he dedicated himself to research in pancreatic and bile duct cancer, leading to the award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Medicine by The University of Sydney. He maintains membership with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.

Dr Sandanayake remains actively engaged in both national and international meetings, contributing to ongoing research in gastrointestinal cancer and immunotherapy, with several original publications to his name.

As an educator, he serves in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at The University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Sandanayake has specialist expertise in all areas of gastroenterology and liver disease. He also holds certification in endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, and ERCP.
