Dr Navin Amarasinghe

Dr Navin Amarasinghe is a highly qualified and dedicated Consultant Physician specialising in Geriatric Medicine and General Medicine. As a Specialist Geriatrician, he focuses on the health and well-being of older individuals, helping them manage complex health conditions and maintain their independence. Dr Amarasinghe is committed to providing comprehensive, patient-centred care that addresses the unique physical, cognitive, and social needs of his patients.

Dr Amarasinghe completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with honours from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2006. After relocating to Australia in 2009, he undertook his initial postgraduate training in Tasmania. He successfully completed his examinations with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and moved to Victoria to complete his advanced specialist training, primarily at a major metropolitan hospital in Melbourne. He holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). Dr Amarasinghe is also actively involved in professional advisory roles, serving as a Representative for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians on a state health department advisory group for Geriatric Evaluation and Management.

In his clinical practice, Dr Amarasinghe specialises in dual fields, combining Geriatric Medicine and General Medicine to diagnose and manage complex, chronic illnesses. He has extensive experience in conducting comprehensive geriatric evaluations, memory and cognitive assessments, and managing behavioural symptoms associated with dementia. His clinical interests also include falls prevention, balance assessments, delirium management, and continence care. Beyond his clinical work, Dr Amarasinghe is passionate about medical education, regularly teaching and mentoring Junior Doctors, and contributing to the development of clinical guidelines to improve patient care standards.
