About Prof. Matthew Read

Prof. Matthew Read is an experienced general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon based at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Fitzroy. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Hons) from Monash University (2003) and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2017. Following his general surgical fellowship, Prof. Read completed advanced training through the Australian and New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA) at St Vincent’s and The Alfred Hospitals in Melbourne. He later undertook a surgical oncology fellowship at the University Medical Center in Utrecht, the Netherlands, under Prof Richard van Hillegersberg, refining his skills in robotic surgery.

His work has resulted in multiple publications, awards, and international collaborations.
