About Dr Marita Long

Dr Marita Long is a dedicated and highly compassionate General Practitioner who provides comprehensive, continuous care to patients across all stages of life. With a clinical approach rooted in empathy and patient empowerment, she is passionate about delivering evidence-based primary care. Dr Long enjoys the diverse nature of general practice, welcoming patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults, and partnering with them to optimise their long-term health and well-being.

Dr Long began her healthcare career as a Paediatric Nurse before pursuing medicine. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Tasmania in 2007. She subsequently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Family, Child and Youth Health, a Diploma of Child Health, and a Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health. Dr Long achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2013. She is an active member of several professional organisations, serving as a board member and President-Elect of the Australasian Menopause Society, a committee member of the Australian Society of Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a member of the Women in General Practice Victorian Committee of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Long is deeply involved in medical education and research. She serves as a Lecturer in primary care at the University of Melbourne and as an honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre at the University of Tasmania. Her primary areas of clinical interest include women's health, cognitive health, and healthy ageing. As the first General Practitioner appointed as an Honorary Medical Advisor for Dementia Australia, she is a strong advocate for dementia risk reduction, early diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment, and supporting both patients and their carers. Her expertise also spans menopause management, sexual and reproductive health, and paediatric medicine.
